701 is the long version of the X01 game: each player starts with 701 points and counts down to a double-out finish. Because a leg takes more visits, it is the usual format for pairs and team matches, where players alternate throws, and for league nights where one lucky visit should not decide the game.
Our 701 scoreboard handles the long count for you: remaining score, busts, checkout suggestions as soon as you are within range, darts thrown and the 3-dart average of every player, with sets and legs for tournament play.
Set up the game in seconds and let the scoreboard do the maths: it subtracts every visit from 701, flags busts and keeps the turn order.
Choose the format (first to one leg by default, or sets and legs), add 1 to 5 players and, if you like, a bot opponent with one of five levels.
Each player throws three darts per visit and enters the total scored. The scoreboard subtracts it from the remaining 701 and shows the checkout when one is on.
Finish exactly on zero with a double to win the leg. The result, the darts thrown and the 3-dart average are saved to your account if you are signed in.
Singles score the number, the outer ring doubles it and the inner ring trebles it. The outer bull scores 25 and the inner bull 50. The highest visit is 180 (three treble 20s). Playing 701, the scoreboard shows your remaining score, your 3-dart average and the suggested checkout as soon as you are within 170.
The fewest darts a 701 leg can take is twelve: three 180s and a 161 checkout (treble 20, treble 17, bull). For most players a leg takes between 30 and 45 darts, which is why 701 rewards consistency over one big visit.

With 701 to go there is no point planning a checkout before you are under 200. Concentrate on the treble 20 and keep your average up.
Over a long leg the average is the honest measure of how you played. Use it to compare legs and, in teams, to see which partner is scoring.
From about 170, play to leave a two-dart finish such as 32, 40 or 60 rather than throwing at the treble out of habit.
The minimum is twelve darts: three visits of 180 and a 161 checkout (treble 20, treble 17, bull). Most amateur players need between 30 and 45 darts per leg.
Mostly in pairs and team formats, where two or more players share one score and alternate visits, and in some leagues that want longer legs. Individual professional matches are played at 501.
